Il Giardino di Daniel Spoerri
At the beginning of the 90s the Swiss artist Daniel Spoerri started to create a sculpture park in southern Tuscany, about 80 km south of Siena. In 1997 "Il Giardino di Daniel Spoerri" was opened and can be visited from Easter to October. At present, 112 installations of 55 artists are to be found on the approximately 16 hectares of land. In 1997 "Il Giardino di Daniel Spoerri" was recognized as a foundation by the Italian Ministry of Culture and officially opened.

The name "Il Giardino" is a geographical name. Older maps show the name "Il Paradiso". One could therefore rightly speak of a "paradise garden". The landscape in southern Tuscany is less conical than the hilly landscape of Siena, surrounded by cypresses. The slopes of Mount Amiata, the highest mountain of Tuscany, are wooded. In the restaurants many mushrooms and wild boar. Here you can not see Tuscany as you know it from calendar pictures. In winter falls snow, the Monte Amiata is considered a ski resort. In the summer, especially in August, heat and drought make the inhabitants and travelers also here.
